BAFTAs TV 2019: Stars descend on the red carpet for super glam bash (2024)

The great and good of the UK showbiz world descended on the red carpet ahead of Sunday night's TV BAFTAs.

Taking place at the Royal Festival Hall, Southbank,London,The Virgin Media British Academy Television Awards, which is hosted by Graham Norton, kicked off with a legion of stars making their sensational appearances on the red carpet in a host of dazzling ensembles.

Holly Willoughby, Jodie Comer and Susanna Reid looked incredible as they upped the glam to the max, with the Killing Eve beauty going for a one-shoulder magenta gown while the newly-single GMB star was showing off her assets in a sheer black ensemble - clearly cementing her new relationship status.

The BAFTA TV Awards is an annual celebration of the best British and international viewing offered to UK audiences. This year, BBC America's Killing Eve has swept the board with a whopping 14 nominations, with the hit thriller series' leading stars Jodie and Sandra Oh both up for the Leading Actress gong.

The star, who is nominated for leading actress in Mrs Wilson, told the Press Association: 'I think that, in terms of writers and story-telling, there's a long forming narrative that's allowing people to take risks and try different things. Films are still taking risks but not quite in the same way.'

On female-led programmes, the Luther star said: "I think TV for me has always been where there's really great female roles, more so than in film. Film do create them but they're rare.

'I think that American TV has had women at the forefront of their TV shows for a long time, we just need to catch up here. But there's also more female producers in TV, there's lots of female producers around so work is starting to even out. It's good, it's exciting."

The spy-action thriller is also up for the Drama Series award, as well as Must-See Moment, which is voted for by the public, with its chilling last scene when Eve, played by Oh, stabs Villanelle, played by Comer.

Killing Eve's creator, Phoebe, is nominated for the Writer: Drama gong, while Fiona Shaw, who plays Carolyn Martens, and Kim Bodnia, who plays Konstantin, are also up for Supporting Actress and Actor at the star-studded annual extravaganza.

Wow: A Very English Scandal has an impressive 12 nominations, with Hugh Grant nominated for the Leading Actor gong for his character Jeremy Thorpe (pictured inA Very English Scandal)

His personal issues - which saw him develop a painkiller addiction, end his marriage and commit a drink-driving offence - saw him sit out the last few episodes of BGT 2018, as well as Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway, last spring.
